Earning a merit badge is a rewarding journey! Your child will complete a series of activities designed to build their skills and confidence. While documentation is required, the focus is on learning and progress. Just like any skill, practice is key! Repeating activities helps children build confidence and mastery, transforming initial attempts into impressive achievements.

Night Life

  • To get this badge you must backyard camp outside three nights (consecutive or not)
  • Take a night walk, one short (at least 2 kilometers) with flashlight, one medium (at least 6 kilometers) half of the way with flashlight, one long (at least 8 kilometers) only when necessary (uneven surfaces).

  • Go for a walk in a graveyard! Most large graveyards are closed to the public during the night hours, but some small ones can be visited. Be respectful - the idea is to see something you don't see everyday, not to disturb or cause harm
  • Make a night music mix - collect night sounds and add them between your favorite songs that feature night themes. Every child will respond differently to different types of music - play as many as you would like, find your own and enjoy the process!
